When visiting Shanghai ,tourists will inevitably be introduced to the 468 ---meter high Tv Tower ,which ranks the tallest in Asia and third tallest in the world,just after the 553—meter CN Tower in Toronto and the 535—meter Moscow TV tower .Known as the Oriental Pearl Tv tower that lies in the Finance and Trade Zone, Pudong, it is landmark to the Shanghainese just as the Sydney Opera House is to Australians and the Eiffel Tower to the French,.

The designer’s inspiration was derived from a line written by BaiJuyi, a prominent Tang Dynasty poet.The line goes, it was like large and small pearls dropping on a plae of jade”,the design of the project won the Arhietectural Creation Award from the Chinese National Society of Architecture and the First Award of Distingguished Design In Shanghai.

The oriental Pearl Tv Tower consists of three big columns which are 9 meters in diameter,the space module, the upper sphere, the lower sphere, five small spheres,tower bade and square ..In the tower,there is a double—deked elevator which can hold 50 people at a time and two high—speed elevantors wich can run a t a speed of 7 meters per second.The tower is equipped with three—Dimensional lighting installation,which makes the whole tower very colorful and beautiful.

Looking up from the base fo the tower,visitors can distinctly see 11 large and small shining balls,falling down in clusters from the top down to the green lawn.The 20—room space Hotel is located I the five small balls between two large globes,140 to 230 meters above the ground,which gives guests the feeling of being in s spaceship.It takes 40 seconds by elevator to reach the upper sphere,263 meters above ground with a diameter of 45 meters which is actually a viewing gallery.On the 271- meter level are 20 karaoke private rooms.Through the glad panes of the revolving restaurant(one revolution every hour),able to accommodate 1,600 dinners,visitor can see a panoramic view of Shanghai----ghe gray colors of its history have become somewhat lighter,and the scenery has gone from ancient to modern..

At the top of the tower is a 110—meter transmitting beaon,the longest of its kind in the world.The beacon is able to Shanghai and neighboring province within a radius of 80 kilometers.

At night, lit up by laser floodlights,the oriental Pearl TV Tower is resplendent and dazzling to the eye.
